Hello friends!
It's been so long since I've sat down to blog. I've missed it immensely.
About 5 months ago we moved out of our home to begin an extensive renovation and addition. Well I am happy to say we are home :)
I was hoping to share my experiences throughout the process. However, a lack of internet access made uploading content difficult. So... I am going to try something different. I'm going to take you on a "tour" of our experience in a retrospective way.
As I write, my contractor Tim is installing James Hardie Siding on our new addition. It looks great! Inside, the house is pretty much finished. There are still some installations to do in the kitchen, touch-ups here and there and some work in the basement. I'm not ready to do a reveal quite yet. You'll have to wait a bit to see (wink).
So this is where we are now...
I'm looking at paint colours for an antique buffet that my Dad has generously been stripping and sanding. The buffet belonged to my grandmother. This is what it looked like before.
It has lovely details.
I'm leaning towards Benjamin Moore's Raccoon Fur as the new colour. What do you think? It's a funny name isn't it? The colour is a great black with blue undertones.
This is the door stripped back to the original oak. In the 1950's, my grandmother had it stained a pickled oak colour with a gold colour blasted into it. Yes...really. Over the years the gold had disappeared and what was left was a yellowed paint finish.
I think it will look great revived in this dark shade. It will be a nice contrast with the walls and the walnut coloured floors in our new space.
So...I hope to share more with you in the coming days and weeks about our renovation experience. I hope you will be able to take away some tips and inspiration for your own homes. It was a big learning experience for us. We were lucky to have a FABULOUS Contractor (Tim Bernaski Interiors) who works with a great team of professional tradespeople. I hope you will enjoy it!
See you soon,
Debra xo
