DIY Cloche

One of the trends I've noticed popping up everywhere
is the cloche.

Originally developed by the French, these bell shaped glass jars or domes were used to protect plants and early seedlings from harsh elements. Today, they are used for practical purposes but more often you see them displayed for their beauty.

Although I have a few cloche, I'm always looking for new takes on these simple objects. So when I came across this old clock last week I thought it would be fun to repurpose it into a cloche.

On that same trip, I also found the tiny brass curio cabinet
and beautiful antique book.

So it's a very simple DIY. The most difficult part is finding the clock which you usually see kicking around thrift shops.
I got mine for $1.50!

Here's how to make your own.

Step 1: Buy your clock.
Step 2: Unscrew the clock parts/hardware.
Step 3: Clean it up.
Step 4: Fill and display!

Easy peasy :)

Enjoy!

Love Letters...

I'm not sure what happened to the white winter here but it seems to have melted. It's only January?  I love the snow... a beautiful white blanket to cover all the winter brown underneath.

If you love white, you will want to take a peek inside the stunning new issue of Gathering's Magazine. It's their annual white issue. The magazine is created by the lovely and talented Heather Spriggs-Thompson. It's full of inspiration.
Take a look at it here

I had the pleasure of contributing to this issue with the photo story "Love Letters".  I'm a big fan of Heather's romantic, vintage style. So when she invited me to contribute a story using paper I jumped at the chance.

Here are just a few of the images I created that
you will find inside.

It seems the handwritten letter is a rare find these days.

Wouldn't it be lovely to receive one in the mail?

Gather some pretty paper and fun embellishments such as vintage postage stamps, labels, feathers and confetti

-- and write a note to someone you love.

Happy 2013!

Well hello there. Happy New Year.

I realize I'm about a week late but we've been a bit slow getting back into our routine around here.

The holidays were lovely. This was our first Christmas back in the "new" house. It was fun to decorate for the holidays, although I kept it very minimal this year.

We hosted Christmas Dinner. A real test on our new range. What a big difference from our old oven! We've graduated from a 24" teeny tiny temperamental oven to a 36" beauty.

Here are some pics of what we were up to over the holidays...

I hope you had a lovely break too.

This week I'm working on some new designs for the shop which I hope to re-launch soon. I'm adding some fun products that will compliment my designs and stream-lining my stationery products.

Hubby is home recovering from a minor surgery last week. It was a dental related surgery so there is lots of soup making happening here. I was thinking of sharing these recipes with you as this is my second round at this. Sick or not, soup is a comfort especially on cold winter's nights.
